Well, I’m living my dream here in Alaska! And it feels so wonderful. I still can’t get over the midnight sunsets and the fact that incredible mountain hikes surrounded by endless peaks and breathtaking glacial valleys are only only a 20-minute drive from my new place in Anchorage. Needless to say, I’ve been taking it all in and doing as much as I possibly can to get to know my new home. And this is why I haven’t been able to force myself to sit down and write about them on my blog. So instead, I’m simply going to share the highlights of my latest adventures with you through a series of photo logs. Here are some of my favorite captures from our first two trips into the great Alaskan outdoors.
Camping at Skilak Lake
Skilak Lake, located on the Kenai Peninsula, is an enormous 15-mile long lake in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. And it is breathtaking. The sunset was beautiful, especially because it meant the mosquitos would be leaving us alone soon!
It’s too light for star photography, but I guess this is good too.The bright orange moon setting in the early morning.
Climbing O’Malley Peak
This was our first backpacking trip this summer, and it’s hard to believe from the picture, but this alpine plateau is only about 15 miles from downtown Anchorage.Sitting on the summit of 5,150 ft. O’Malley Peak, looking out into the endless Chugach Mountains.
Enjoying all your pictures and tales of Alaska. You have areal talent for writing. KB in Orlando
